I am new to SCOM . I would like to know How a scom Agent interacts with the machine to calculate when the machine has breached the processor usage above 90%. I need to know the background working of the agent ie how does Health Service in client machine calculates.

Hi,

I am newbie with SCOM. For our project we are using a WMI provider creation. Which will be used by SCOM to collect events and display in the views. Being new to SCOM I am not getting any idea how to proceed. For starters, If any one can provide some inputs or some documents especially on SCOM with WMI provider will be of great help.

I am having a basic question..

1.When we are creating monitors regardless what monitor type I observed that it should fall any one category of Configuration, Availabilty,Security or Performance state. On what criteria are we going to set this monitors into which state. I m not able to make my WMI provider have a monitor.

Maintenance Mode issues

Hi,
We are having a SCOM R2 environment.
We put our servers in the maintenance mode every month during the patching window which has a time frame of 6 hours. As soon as the servers are out of the maintenance mode, there is a horde of alerts that is generated (around 500 alerts at once). These alerts correspond to the events that occured during the maintenance mode window, and should not be generated. Could you help me with this issue? We are facing this from the past 3 months. This never happend before. We are running R2 since July last year.
Any help in this regard would be welcome.

Problem upgrading from SCOM 2007 SP1 to R2

Hi All,

I am having issue while upgrading from SCOM2007 SP1 to R2. I have completed all the checklist for the installation but still get the error message-

"An older version of Operations Manager 2007 that Setup cannot upgrade has been found on this computer.

Uninstall the older version and run Setup again."

In the installation error log -

SCOM Evaluation – Cannot manage and monitor

Hello,
My question is regarding setup of the evaluation version.
Our company is planning to purchase SCOM 2007 soon and I am working to evaluate and setup in the LAB environment now. I downloaded the evaluation version, installed and set it up.
I installed the agent on one of the member servers and now 2 servers report into the Admin console.
I also downloaded and installed a lot of service packs including AD, IIS, DHCP, DNS, WINS, Dell, HP,etc.
Now when I got to the Administration Overview, I see the message in the Required Configuration tasks window:
In order for System Center Operations Manager to manage and monitor your network you must complete the following steps:
Upgrade to full version. (snapshot in the link below)

How to run a discovery rule

Currently in MPs the discoveries are run on a fixed frequency which can be overridden. But what i want is that i should be able to run a partucilar discovery on a particular event.. Lets say a particular discovery should run when an alert gets generated..

can we run the discovery from powershell script or a .Net program using MOM SDK

Health Service could not log on the RunAs account

We have removed 'Log On Locally' rights for RunAs account of health service on all server in the domain. Subsequent to that we get an error mentioning the same on RMS.
Dose this impact the functioning of local health service on RMS or is it mandate that health service account require ‘log on locally’ rights.

2k8 server management packs not working

I have installed SCOM 2007 R2 on a win2k8 R2 server and I am having difficulty getting some of the monitors to work properly.

If I open up the health explorer on the win2k8 server it has a lot of monitors that are not working (i.e. no green check box signifying the entity is healthy but also no red x stating there is a problem either). I have gone in to the "Monitors" section under the "Authoring" tab and have looked to make sure that everything for the win2k8 and win2k3 servers are enabled by default. I have also checked the management packs and it appears that all of the proper win2k3 and win2k8 packs are installed. Any other ideas of why this happens?

Discovery wizard problem

I am using hyper-v for testing scom. I installed scom on exch01 vm and the operations manager database on sql01 vm. There is another win7 vm in the same subnet as exch01 and sql01. I have tried to install the agent manually on win7 and sql01. When I run the discovery wizard, it stopped on the discovery progress page showing that computer discovery requires SQL server broker service. I have enabled the broker service on sql01 but still cannot go through the discovery progress page. What is the problem here?
Is there anything missing for running the discovery wizard in the virtual network of hyper-v?

get-discovery cmdlet gives error when executed in SCOM powershell console. When I try to execute 'get-discovery' in powershell console of scom it gives the following error - 'The term 'get-discovery' is not recognized as a cmdlet, function, operable program'. Also, when I execute Get-OperationsManagerCommands, the list of supported cmdlets does not show get-discovery in the list. Though the list contains cmdlets like 'get-Alert', 'Approve-agentPendingAction'.

It seems some of the cmdlets are missing. If anyone has any idea why this is happening please respond to this query.

Hi Friends,
I am very new to SCOM 2007. I am trying to create a new monitor (From Authoring»Monitors»right click and say “Create New Monitor» Unit Monitor”) for monitoring the network PDUs.
On “First snmpProbe” page, it asks for “Object Identifier”. What i need to provide here??
Also, on next page “Build First Expression” window, it asks for “Parameter Name”, where can i get this Parameter Name??
I am sorry, but since i am new to this SCOM 2007, i don’t know where and in which document i will get this information about parameter list and their values.

Can you please help me in this?

Hi all,
First of all, i'm quite new in Ops Mgr, so excuse my vocabulary. :)

I've installed and imported IIS Management Pack on my SCOM2007 server. I can see a lot of informations about my web server. That's great. ;)

I've installed agent and MP for my Windows XP Client, and every thing is fine. That's great to. ;)

But now, I would like to go further. I'd like to know the response time from my XP client to the WEB SERVER. Is it possible ?

SCOM 2007 Agent on Exchange 2007 Server

I have recently deployed agents to Exchange 2007 servers for monitoring purposes. Initially everything was okay, meaning I could get the reports of mailbox availability for all (4) mailbox servers. Now off-late when I select the report mailbox availability report one two of the 4 servers show. On seeing this I uninstalled the agent on both the problematic servers and repushed agent. On this one of the servers came up in the report, but the other server still having issues getting the reports. Quick look on the computer state states critical on AGENT for this server and this is the same for other server as well which I am getting the reports. I do not know how do I troubleshoot these issues..it is really driving me crazy. any help is much appreciated.
